File this one under the interesting tab, undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. appears to be set to start his own race team in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
After rumblings in the garage about this for weeks, a website surfaced on Friday — TheMoneyTeamRacing.com — which displayed an image of Mayweather and a rendering of a No. 50 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race car. The tagline atop the website read, “Outside the Ring: The Champ is ready to fight again, this time in a sport full of speed, fire and fury.”
Interestingly, the website also had a counter to the team’s next race, which according to the site will be the final race of the 2019 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Since the website was unearthed, all of the content has now been replaced with a simple message which states, “More Info Coming Soon.”
Is this legit? Will Mayweather actually field a race car in NASCAR’s top division? Only time will tell.
But the website domain was registered back in May, and a team Facebook account — which was created back in April — also exists. As does a private Instagram account.
If Mayweather is indeed serious about this venture, he will likely finally be subjected to his first loss in his professional sports career, as NASCAR is a unique sport where even the greatest don’t win at a super-high rate, as all of the competitors are up against each other each week.
Mayweather has a career boxing record of 50 wins and no losses and he has fought at five different weight classes.
