Alex Labbe and DGM Racing owner Mario Gosselin have both been handed hefty penalties from NASCAR, after organizing and participating in an unauthorized test this past week at Daytona International Speedway.

Both Labbe and Gosselin will be handed L2 penalties, for violating Section 5.1.a.d of the NASCAR Xfinity Series rule book, which refers to private vehicle testing.

Labbe will receive a 75-point penalty, dropping him from 16th to 21st in 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series point standings, effectively taking the Canadain out of contention for a playoff position.

Gosselin will receive a $50,000 fine, as well as the loss of 75 owner points, which will be assesed to DGM Racing’s No. 36, moving that car from 24th to 34th in owner standings, moving the team into the third draw for starting position, rather than the second.

Six NASCAR Cup Series teams will be penalized following the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the first standalone weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series this season.

Jeremy Bullins [No. 2 – Team Penske], Randall Burnett [No. 8 – Richard Childress Racing] and James Small [No. 19 – Joe Gibbs Racing] have all been fined $5,000 by NASCAR, for their violation of Sections 10.9.10.4 [Tires and Wheels] of the NASCAR Cup Series rule book (not having twenty lug nuts properly secured).

Johnny Klausmeier [No. 14 – Stewart-Haas Racing] has been fined $20,000 and suspended from the next NASCAR Cup Series Championship Points Event, due to having more than one lug nut not secured on Clint Bowyer’s No. 14. As announced earlier this week, Greg Zipadelli will be the interim crew chief for Clint Bowyer in Saturday’s event at Michigan.

Richard Petty Motorsports [No. 43] and GoFas Racing [No. 32] have both been assesed an L1 penalty from NASCAR, for their violation of Sections 20.17.2.1b: “Overall vehicle weight” (Improperly mounted ballast). Both teams have been docked ten driver points and ten owner points. Both teams lost their original crew chiefs for Sunday’s event at New hampshire, but will not be handed any additional suspensions for Saturday’s event at Michigan.
