For the second consecutive weekend, Alex Bowman will be sidelined from NASCAR Cup Series competition, as a result of concussion-like symptoms stemming from a crash at Texas Motor Speedway.

Bowman, who qualified for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs with a victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, was evaluated by physicians over the course of this week in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Charlotte Motor Speedway’s ROVAL marks the second consecutive event that the Tucson, Arizona-native will miss as a result of a September 25 accident at Texas.

“Alex’s health is our first priority,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “We’re focused on supporting his recovery and seeing him back in his race car when the time is right. Alex has a long career ahead of him, so we will invest the necessary time and take our guidance from medical experts. We’re putting no pressure on him to return before he’s 100% ready.”

Noah Gragson, a seven-time winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season, will continue to pilot the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro in Bowman’s absence.

Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 400 will mark Gragson’s first road course start in the NASCAR Cup Series. Gragson is set to graduate full-time to the Cup Series in 2023, with Petty GMS.
