ATYL: Denny Jumped the Restart! | That One Caution Killed Strategy (Richmond Analysis)

When the rain started to fall, NASCAR fans knew they were in for an odd 400 laps at Richmond Raceway.

With the NASCAR Cup Series field running part of its first points-paying event on wet weather tires, fans were treated to some of the best racing “The Action Track” has seen in years. Similar to Bristol, we saw that a softer tire compound and added traction with treads allowed these drivers to race multiple grooves successfully. This allowed drivers like Josh Berry to gain 15-plus positions from a poor starting spot in Sunday’s event.

For the rest of the race though, it was business as usual. When a caution by Kyle Busch killed any chance of a strategy race, the field paced their way to lap 398.

Suddenly, a late race caution from Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson brought out NASCAR overtime where we witnessed one of the most controversial finishes in a long time.
