Callum Ilott’s maiden Indianapolis 500 will come to an end after only 68 laps, after a pair of massive shunts in Turn 2, and on the backstretch of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Juncos Hollinger Racing driver was running outside the top-20 at the time of the accident, which drew the second caution of the afternoon, right in the midst of the second round of green-flag pit stops.

Last time out at Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road course, the Cambridge, England-native earned a career-best eighth-place finish, the first top-10 for both Ilott and Juncos Hollinger Racing.

The IndyCar rookie exited the infield care center with his right wrist wrapped up, indicating to Olivia Ray of WISH-TV that he believes his right hand/wrist is fractured.

The 23-year-old entered Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 at the tail-end of the top-20 in NTT IndyCar Series point standings, a metric that will certainly be dampened by a 32nd-place finish in the seventh race of the season.
