After a couple of days of speculation following an impending announcement from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Tony Kanaan announced Wednesday morning that the 2023 Indianapolis 500 would be his final IndyCar race.

The 2013 Indianapolis 500 winner has competed in every 500 since 2002 and has been one of the most popular drivers at Indianapolis over the last three decades. Kanaan will be competing for Arrow McLaren at Indianapolis in the No. 66 Chevrolet-powered entry.

In a long and storied career, Kanaan has 17 victories in American Open Wheel Racing after joining the CART championship in 1998, the first of those being in 1999 at Michigan after grabbing the lead from a slowing Max Papis but not before holding off a charging Juan Montoya.

Kanaan would win the 2004 IRL championship on the strength of three wins and completing every lap that year.
