Kyffin Simpson, who began the 2022 Indy Lights season driving for TJ Speed Motorsports and moved to HMD Motorsports for the final six races of the season, will return to HMD for the full 2023 Indy Lights schedule.

The 18-year-old American-Barbadian racer is ready to get to 2023.

“I’m excited to continue working with a team that understands how to win. I feel I’ve progressed as a driver since joining HMD earlier this year, and I am confident we can build on that momentum to have a much stronger season,” Simpson explained in a team press release. “HPD and Chip Ganassi Racing have been very supportive in the off-season, culminating in a crazy win at Petit Le Mans. It felt good to get back on the top step. In 2023 we have the tools and the people around me to deliver a step forward in performance. Race wins and podiums are the goal.”

The race team feels that they have placed Simpson in a position, where he is set to succeed mightily in 2023.

“We welcome Kyffin to the team for his first full season with HMD Motorsports,” Mike Maurini, General Manager of HMD Motorports said. “Understanding what is needed to win for Kyffin and his management program has put the right people in the right places for success in 2023 and beyond.”

Simpson competed in the Formula 4 United States Championship and Formula Regional Americas Championship in 2020, but it was in 2021 when Simpson really found himself on the map.

The young racer scored an impressive seven wins and was the overall champion of the Formula Regional Americas Championship series, he also scored three podiums in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Series that season.

So far, Simpson has competed in 14 Indy Lights races. Simpson has a best finish of fifth, which he has achieved twice so far. He’ll look to take a huge step forward in his progression in 2023.
