Kyle Larson’s second attempt at running the Indianapolis 500 (and running ‘The Double’) isn’t going nearly as smoothly as the first time around.

In the closing stages of Fast Friday practice for the Indianapolis 500, Kyle Larson crashed his No. 17 HendrickCars.com / McLaren Chevrolet, marking the second major incident of the day.

It’s the second time the Elk Grove, California-native has crashed in preparation for the 109th Running of The Indianapolis 500, having been involved in a single-car incident during the Open Test on April 24.

The championship-winning NASCAR Cup Series pilot appeared to get too low in the middle of the third corner during a mock qualifying run, before spinning his No. 17 out and nosing it into the outside wall.

After the initial wall contact, Larson continued to slide before backing his entry into the outside wall in Turn 4, in turn causing damage to both ends of the vehicle.

With less than 90 minutes remaining in Friday’s practice session, it’s unlikely that Larson and Arrow McLaren will get back on the racetrack. Thus, the 32-year-old, in just his second INDYCAR attempt, will hit the track for the first time after his wreck in Saturday’s qualifying session.

This is a developing story. More details and quotes will be added as they become available.
