Jack Harvey has been cleared for a return by the NTT IndyCar Series’ medical team for the upcoming Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The driver of the No. 45 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda was forced to miss the second round after suffering a heavy crash during final practice at Texas Motor Speedway.

Harvey was running through Turn 2 when the car drifted up the track and the right rear caught the outside wall upon exit. The contact changed the momentum as the car went across the track and made a violent slap into the inside wall before sliding down the backstretch and coming to a stop near the entry into Turn 3.

While the impact forced the team to move to a backup car, Harvey was originally cleared moments after the accident. However, the following day the IndyCar medical team conducted a follow-up test and deemed Harvey not fit to race.

In Harvey’s absence, the team called upon Santino Ferrucci, who ended up finishing ninth after starting 27th (last) on the grid.

Now, nearly two weeks from the incident, Harvey is set to rejoin teammates Graham Rahal and rookie Christian Lundgaard as the series heads to California for the third round of the championship.

A statement from RLL read, “Jack Harvey has been cleared to compete by the IndyCar medical team following his incident on Saturday, March 19 at Texas Motor Speedway. He will make his competitive return to the NTT IndyCar Series at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 8-10.

“We would like to express our gratitude for the exceptional care that Dr. Billows, his staff including Dr. Julia Vaizer and Dr. Terry Trammell and the AMR IndyCar Safety Team has given to Jack, both onsite in Texas and in the time since then.”
