Marcus Ericsson led the way in the morning warm-up before today’s GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

The 31-year-old Swede logged 19 circuits around the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course and had a fastest lap of 1m11.0839s, with his final one turned that topped the field as time expired.

Illott, second fastest, trailed the Chip Ganassi Racing pilot with a lap time that was 0.1131s slower. Felix Rosenqvist led majority of the session, sitting 0.1152s behind the fastest lap time in third.

For a 30-minute session for teams to dial in their cars for the race later today, drivers had no patience and were willing to simulate race conditions.

In the beginning of the session, Alex Palou locked up his left front tire entering Turn 7 as he was on his out lap to start his first run. That section of the track is likely going to be a place of trouble and passing in the race.

Late in the session, Helio Castroneves used up Kyle Kirkwood as they approached Turn 8. The No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet was shoved off the track into the grass, thought presumably with damage presumed.

At the tight Turn 1 right hander, Romain Grosjean attempted an outside move on Rinus VeeKay. Leaving each other space, the Frenchman couldn’t make the corner and narrowly missed the grass.

Up Next: GMR Grand Prix at 3:00 p.m. ET, live with coverage on NBC, Peacock, IndyCar Live and IndyCar Radio.
