The attorney representing Alex Palou has issued a statement following Chip Ganassi Racing filing a civil action lawsuit against its reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion.

On July 12, CGR announced it had extended a deal through the end of 2023 with Palou, who refuted the press release a few hours later while also confirming his departure from the team at the end of this season and revealing he had signed with McLaren Racing for next year.

On Wednesday, CGR filed its case with Marion County against the 25-year-old Spaniard and his racing entity, APLA Racing USA, LLC, with a request to have the hearing before the end of August.

Now, roughly 24 hours later, Palou’s attorney, Rachel E. Epstein, issued a statement on the situation.

“We are disappointed that Chip Ganassi Racing would attempt to keep Alex from an opportunity to compete in Formula 1, and even more so with CGR’s public court filings and continued commentary to the press on this matter,” said Epstein.

“Alex has consistently given his very best effort to CGR and it is unfortunate that CGR would attempt to deny Alex this opportunity.

“We would hope the parties can resolve this amicably, but if not, we look forward to resolving this matter in a private arbitration, as CGR has requested.”
