Carson Hocevar, who has impressed mightily in a part-time schedule in the NASCAR Cup Series this season, will return to the No. 42 LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the final four events of the season.
The team made the announcement with a funny video posted to social media on Wednesday. In the video, legendary crew chief Dale Inman states, “Guess who is racing the rest of the year?”
The door to the shop opens, and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Richard Petty comes stepping through the door. The video cuts and Carson Hocevar pops through the door next, to which Inman says, “There he is!”

Following the announcement, Hocevar took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his gratitude for additional starts with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB.
“Happy to have the rest of the Cup season after the ROVAL!!! Earlier this year, I had thought I may never get a shot in a Cup car, and by the end of this year I will have 10+ starts,” Hocevar posted. “Truly blessed and thankful. Thank you, LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Jimmie Johnson, and Maury Gallagher!”
Hocevar, who has been rumored to be making a move to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024, made his NASCAR Cup Series debut for Spire Motorsports at Gateway earlier in the season.
In that race, Hocevar was running around the top-15, when the brakes failed on his car leading to a crash.
After the team’s original full-time driver — Noah Gragson — was suspended and released from the team, LEGACY MOTOR CLUB tapped Hocevar to be the interim driver of its No. 42 car beginning at Darlington Raceway.
Hocevar finished 17th, 20th, 11th, and 16th for the team at Darlington, Kansas, Bristol, and Texas. Hocevar was swept up in a multi-car crash at Talladega last week, and finished 35th as a result.
Mike Rockenfeller, a road racing ace, will pilot the car this weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL before handing the keys back to Hocevar for the remainder of the season.
