Erebus Motorsports, which fields an Australian Super Cars entry for Brodie Kostecki, has plans to field a NASCAR entry in some events in 2024 for the driver according to an exclusive interview from AutoAction with team CEO Barry Ryan.
The team reportedly will lean on its relationship with Richard Childress Racing, and is simply waiting for the 2024 schedules to see when the calendars align to make its official NASCAR schedule.
Kostecki had a solid NASCAR Cup Series debut in the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing entry at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course earlier this season. Ryan told AutoAction that continuing to forge the relationship with RCR just makes sense for all parties involved.
“With Brodie having so much interest in it, too, and with what he did, it’s silly not to keep developing our relationship with RCR for the benefit of both teams,” Ryan said. “RCR definitely sees value in it for their road course program, and we see value in it. If we can send more staff over there and get some experience in between events, it’s invaluable.”
In the interview post, AutoAction has a rendering of a black No. 99 Erebus Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which has associate sponsorship from Coca-Cola as well as Shaw and Partners, however this does not appear to be an official rendering of Kostecki’s potential 2024 NASCAR ride.
The No. 99 is the number that the team utilizes in the Australian Super Cars Series, but is unavailable in the NASCAR Cup Series as Trackhouse Racing utilizes the number with Daniel Suarez.
Kostecki, 25, qualified 11th for his NASCAR Cup Series debut, but had to start in the rear after a crash during his qualifying run at Indianapolis. However, he performed well in the race and worked his way from the rear of the field for a respectable 22nd-place finish.
The Australian driver genuinely seemed to enjoy his NASCAR Cup Series debut, which he admitted he had been working on securing for several years during his media availability at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
