While he’ll miss on-track activity for the NASCAR Cup Series in Richmond, AJ Allmendinger will lead the field to green for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Road America. So, maybe it was worth it?

Driving the No. 10 LeafHome Water Solutions Chevrolet Camaro for Kaulig Racing, Allmendinger posted a lap of 130.574 seconds (111.606mph) to score his 10th career pole in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and his third at Road America.

Cole Custer, the winner at two of the three road course events earlier this season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, will start from the outside of the front row, after posting a lap three-tenths slower than Allmendinger.

Justin Allgaier will start Saturday’s event from third-place, while Riley Herbst, and Sam Mayer completed the top-five.

Scoring a team-high starting spot for Sam Hunt Racing was Sage Karam in sixth place. Connor Mosack, John Hunter Nemechek, Kaz Grala, and Sammy Smith completed the top-10.

Several drivers had issues in practice and qualifying at the newly-repaved Road America and will have to either fix their racecars or go to backups before the start of Saturday’s 180-mile contest.

Daniel Hemric, Brandon Jones, Ryan Sieg, Joe Graf, Jr., Ryan Ellis, Alex Labbe, and Kyle Weatherman all failed to post a lap in Friday’s single-car qualifying session.
