Katherine Legge, who made four NASCAR Xfinity Series starts during the 2018 season, will return for her fifth this weekend at Road America. Legge will also return a few weeks later in the Pennzoil 150 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Legge, 43, will pilot the No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro for SS Green Light Racing.

Legge revealed on her Facebook page that she will run this weekend’s race with sponsorship from ref.ology.

According to a press release from Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Legge will run a total of four NASCAR Xfinity Series events this season. Legge, who made it into the field for the Indianapolis 500 this season, says that experience paved the way for her to make the decision to give NASCAR another try.

“The Indy 500 made me realize that life and racing careers are too short not to go for it,” Legge said in the release. “My interest and passion are to continue to break new ground in motorsports. I’ve been proactive over the last year in thinking about what I want to do in my career and how I can accomplish those things.”

While Legge finished 33rd in the Indianapolis 500 in her third-career attempt this season, she made history prior to the last-place finish. Legge’s four-lap qualifying average for the 107th Indianapolis 500 marked the fastest four-lap qualifying average by any female racer in history.

Now, Legge will look to make more history, this time in NASCAR.

Legg’s career-best finish in NASCAR Xfinity Series competition was a 14th-place effort in the No. 15 JD Motorsports entry at Road America in 2018.

The veteran of the NTT IndyCar Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Champ Car, and DTM Touring Car Series will attempt to top her career-best numbers with SSGL.
