Hendrick Motorsports has decided not to appeal the penalties handed to the organization’s No. 24 and No. 48 entries following the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway, the team announced in a statement on Monday.

“Because we will be best served by devoting our time and resources to competing each weekend, our team will not pursue an appeal of penalties issued on April 6,” the statement reads. “The area of the race cars NASCAR focused on is not related to our performance on the track.”

The penalties being references were issued to Hendrick Motorsports on Thursday, at the L1 level, and impacted both William Byron and Alex Bowman. Both teams were found to be in violation of sections 14.1 D (Overall Assembled Vehicle Rules), 14.1.2.B (Engineering Change Log), and 14.5.6.B (Greenhouse) of the NASCAR Cup Series rulebook.

As a result, the teams were docked 60 driver points, 60 owner points, and 5 playoff points, while crew chiefs Greg Ives and Brian Campe were fined $75,000 and suspended for the next two NASCAR Cup Series points-paying events – starting at Martinsville.

The decision comes as a relief to many, after the month-long storyline that was the penalties for hood louvers, which finally wrapped up this week with the appeal of Kaulig Racing.
