David Starr 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Our Motorsports Special Report w Bret Baier NASCAR Xfinity Series
David Starr will join Our Motorsports for select races during the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season with sponsorship from Special Report with Bret Baier.

David Starr, a long-time competitor in the NASCAR National Series ranks, will move to Our Motorsports for a schedule of select races in the team’s No. 02 Chevrolet Camaro in 2023. Starr’s first race behind the wheel will be the NASCAR Xfinity Series season-opening Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

For the season-opening race at Daytona, FOX News’ Special Report with Bret Baier will serve as the primary sponsor, and Boulevard, a tech-enabled mentor system, will sponsor the sides of the No. 02 machine.

2023 marks the 25th season for Starr racing in the NASCAR National Series, and he will head into the year with potentially his most potent ride in recent memory.

“I am over the top excited to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity series another year,” Starr said in a team press release. “I would like to thank Our Motorsports, Chris Our and Vic Reynolds, for giving me this opportunity. A huge thank you to Bret Baier for partnering with us for another season. I am so grateful for all of the fans, race teams, and companies who have supported and believed in me throughout the years.”

Starr’s new race team feels that the 55-year-old racer will mesh well with what the team has begun to build in the offseason.

“David is the perfect fit for what we are trying to build. We learned very valuable lessons, both professionally and personally last year. The program that we are building is based on those lessons. It is going to take time, precision, and steady execution,” Our Motorsports co-owner Vic Reynolds said. “David brings much more to us than his proven driving talent. You see, David brings something else to us here that is being overlooked and we like that. We would rather show what that is than put it in a press release.”

Our Motorsports also announced that the organization will run the No. 23 car on a part-time basis in 2023 to go along with its full-time No. 02 entry. In its announcement, the team stated that the No. 23 car would appear later in the season.

The team will run SHR and RCR chassis and will have engines provided by ECR Engines.

Starr’s select schedule with Our Motorsports is dependent upon sponsorship backing, and the full schedule will be announced at a later time, according to Starr’s representative.

Starr, a native of Houston, Texas, was a very successful NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer in his own right. He collected four victories in Truck Series competition through a career that spanned 317 starts in the series, and he finished inside the top 10 of the NASCAR Truck Series point standings seven times, including two top-five finishes in the point standings.

While success has proven to be more difficult to find for Starr in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series levels, the racer has done a lot with a little in recent years in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Starr finished 16th in NASCAR Xfinity Series points in 2014 while driving for TriStar Motorsports. In 19 starts with SS Green Light Racing in 2022, Starr had a best finish of 11th, which he achieved at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Our Motorsports, which expanded to three full-time entries in 2022, will look totally different in 2023 as none of the team’s three drivers at the start of last season will remain on the team’s driver roster.

A year ago, the team began the season with Brett Moffitt, Anthony Alfredo, and Jeb Burton as its drivers.

Alfredo and Burton finished top-15 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship standings, while Moffitt was dropped from the team after 20 starts last season.

In 2023, Alfredo will run for BJ McLeod Motorsports in the No. 78 entry, while Burton pilots the No. 27 entry for Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport and Moffitt will run the No. 25 Ford Mustang for AM Racing.

Even with the shuffling of the deck, the Our Motorsports team has proven to be capable of competing constantly inside the top 10 to top 15 in the series, and if the team is able to keep its performance to the levels that it has been over the last couple of seasons, this should shake out to be Starr’s best shot in the series in several years.
