Friday afternoon’s opening practice for the Grand Prix of Portland, the penultimate round of the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season, was halted for one of the most bizarre reasons in recent memory.
The red flag came out with just over 51 minutes remaining in the session after a big screen off the main straightway of Portland International Raceway became unsecure with mount suffering an apparent hydraulic failure, leaving the screen to tilt downwards near the catchfence.
The session stoppage for the safety issue came at 5:55 p.m. ET, and remains in a holding pattern until further notice.
Keepin' it weird in Portland. With a weird red flag…
