A dominating weekend came to an abrupt end after Josef Newgarden crashed while leading the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 at Iowa Speedway.
The 31-year-old Tennessee native was comfortably out front seeking a sweep of the doubleheader for the NTT IndyCar Series at the 0.894-mile oval. However, it all came undone as his No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet spun and slammed into the Turn 4 SAFER Barrier on Lap 231 of 300. He led 148 laps up until the incident.
A replay showed a potential suspension failure as the cause of the spin before backing into the wall. Newgarden is credited with 24th-place finish.
After dominating all day long, Josef Newgarden is OUT of the race.
