On Wednesday, Hailie Deegan – the driver of the No. 1 Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series — spoke to members of the media ahead of the series’ return to Sonoma Raceway on Saturday.

Deegan, who is mid-way through her second full year in the NCWTS with David Gilliland Racing, has found some struggles thus far, only scoring one top-15 result through the first 11 rounds of the 23-race schedule.

In August 2021, Deeganmade it known that she was eyeing a debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for 2022, along with a full slate in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, despite not having any specifics or details ironed out.

Just under a year later, with no NASCAR Xfinity Series debut planned or announced, the question has been raised of whether the Temecula, California-native’s hopes for a potential series debut, will come to fruition.

Long story short, as it usually does in motorsports, it comes down to the 21-year-old being able to find the necessary sponsorship to make it happen.

“It’s tough trying to get funding midway through the season or trying to figure things out for a potential end-of-year deal, for at least me in these situations,” Deegan said Wednesday. “We’re still working on it and trying to do what we can, but there’s nothing we really have set in stone at all right now. It’s all just kind of seeing what we could possibly do in the future. I wish I had an answer because I want answers myself, but nothing yet.”

At least for now, it looks as though – barring an eleventh-hour influx of sponsorship — Deegan’s potential debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series could be on hold until 2023.
