Video: Riley Herbst Suffers Brake Failure, Goes Hard Into Wall at Phoenix

Riley Herbst crash Phoenix 2022
Riley Herbst’s day came to a quick end when he lost brakes on his No. 98 machine and went hard into the outside wall. Screengrab from FS1 broadcast.

Riley Herbst had been having a great start to the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, but on lap 22 of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series United Rentals 200 at Phoenix, Herbst had the brake pedal on his No. 98 machine go to the floor.

With no brakes, the Stewart-Haas Racing Ford spun around in turns three and four, and slammed his driver’s side door hard into the outside wall.

Fortunately, Herbst was evaluated and released from the infield care center, despite walking away very gingerly from the scene of the accident. Following the care center visit, Herbst called the hit one of the hardest of his racing career.

Herbst found himself seventh in the NASCAR Xfinity Series driver standings heading into Saturday, his points ranking will certainly take a hit by the end of the day.
