You knew Our Motorsports, who have had a couple of throwback schemes during portions of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series, including one honoring Jimmie Johnson at Dover International Speedway, would be bringing the heat for Darlington Raceway’s Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200. On Wednesday, the team released their official throwback, which will honor Class of 2021 NASCAR Hall of Famer Mike Stefanik.

The No. 02 car, which will be driven by Brett Moffitt, will be painted to look like Stefanik’s 1997-1998 NASCAR modified and K&N Pro East Series paint scheme. Stefanik captured the championship in both years in both Series.

Knockaround Sunglasses will provide sponsorship for the effort.

Stefanik was a prolific race car driver. The native of Rhode Island captured a total of nine NASCAR championships throughout his legendary career, seven in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series and two more in the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series. Stefanik’s final modified victory came in 2013 driving for OurMotorsports’ team owner Chris Our.

Unfortunately, Stefanik passed away in September of 2019 after suffering injuries in a plane crash. It’ll be nice to see Stefanik honored this weekend at Darlington Raceway.
