Each week, Brock Beard of LASTCAR.info breaks down the race for the last place finisher in each NASCAR National Series event. This week, history was made as Michael McDowell’s last-place finish after a crash on lap 10 moves him to a tie with Joe Nemechek for the most last place finishes in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series history with 33.

Nemechek’s record had stood since 2014, but it is now in danger of falling with McDowell tying the mark 10 races into the 2019 campaign.

LASTCAR.info also broke down Joey Gase’s last place finish in the MoneyLion 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega. Interestingly enough, Gase was driving a Toyota Supra on Saturday when an engine failure relegated him to finish last. His previous last place effort came at Las Vegas earlier this year, and that was the last time before this week that Gase’s No. 35 car has been a Toyota Supra.

Obviously the Supra didn’t cause the DNFs, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
