Marcus Ericsson Paces Indy Grand Prix Warmup

INDIANAPOLIS — Defending Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson was fastest in Saturday morning warmup ahead of the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

The No. 8 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda went around the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course in 1 minute, 10.3872 seconds to average 124.744 mph. Second fastest was Alexander Rossi in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, just 0.0281 seconds adrift of the Swede.

Colton Herta set the third quickest lap ahead of Andretti Autosport teammate Kyle Kirkwood. Scott Dixon rounded out the top five, .4267 seconds off of Ericsson’s time.

There was one incident of note as Helio Castroneves spun in Turn 4 and sliding into the gravel trap in the final seconds of the session. There was no contact with the tire barrier.

The GMR Grand Prix will air live on NBC at 3:30 p.m. ET. The race will start 15 minutes later.
