Bump Day returns at the Indianapolis 500 as Abel Motorsports announced their entry to the 2023 edition of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

The No. 50 Chevrolet will have RC Enerson in the cockpit. The rookie is making his second attempt at his first start at Indianapolis after a 2021 effort with Top Gun Racing did not result in the 2014 USF2000 championship runner-up making the starting lineup. While Top Gun Racing did not get their car until April of 2021, Abel Motorsports has been working on their car since January of this year.

Abel Motorsports currently fields an Indy NXT team for drivers Jacob Abel and Colin Kaminsky. Abel is the son of Abel Construction Company founder Bill Abel, whose company is the primary backer of the entry.

“We’ve always envisioned the opportunity to enhance our position in the business world by leveraging the unique intersection that racing has with our brand,” said Abel in a team release. “I can’t think of a better way of bringing that to life with our many customers, partners and associates than showcasing what we can do right here at 16th & Georgetown in Speedway. I’m just so thankful of this opportunity.”

Enerson has competed in a handful of races when he is not working in his role as the chief driving instructor for the Lucas Oil School of Racing that his father Neil Enerson owns.

“I can’t thank Bill and John (Brunner, Team Manager) enough for this opportunity to be back at the 500,” Enerson said in a team release. “In the works for many months, the ABEL Motorsports crew is top-notch and loaded with experience well beyond my years. I’m honored to carry the banner for the organization during the Month of May and while it’s going to be a few more weeks until we go on-track, I expect we’ll be up to speed quickly at the Speedway.”

This entry puts the 2023 Indianapolis 500 entry list at 34 cars, so one car will be going home after qualifying.
