Video: Michael McDowell Cleans Out Alex Bowman Late in Championship Race at Phoenix

Alex Bowman, in his first race back after recovering from a concussion, was wiped out by Michael McDowell.

Alex Bowman was hoping to have a good clean run in his first race back after a five-race break due to a concussion sustained at Texas Motor Speedway. However, in the closing laps of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway, it all came undone for Bowman.

Michael McDowell decided to make a big move on Bowman, and it’s not certain whether McDowell was aware that his teammate Todd Gilliland was on the outside of Bowman, but McDowell carried way too much speed into the corner and collided with Bowman.

The contact sent Bowman skidding head-first into the inside wall.
