Oh my goodness. The third multi-car accident of the NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway transpired with under 100 laps to go in Sunday’s race. The latest incident was sparked when Garrett Smithley, running 12th at the time, got extremely loose and slowed significantly in front of Ty Dillon.
Dillon had nowhere to go and made contact with Smithley, which spun Smithley and the contact between the two served as the catalyst for an 11-car melee.

Suffering massive damage in the incident was William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports entry. Byron’s day came to an end in the crash, as well as Tyler Reddick, who won last week’s race at Road America.
The 11 drivers involved in this crash were: 15 – Smithley, 42 – Ty Dillon, 5 – Kyle Larson, 6 – Brad Keselowski, 8 – Reddick, 23 – Bubba Wallace, 24 – Byron, 34 – Michael McDowell, 38 – Todd Gilliland, 51 – Cody Ware and 77 – Landon Cassill.
