Ed Carpenter will run a new number in an oval-only schedule for the 2022 season in the NTT IndyCar Series, his team announced via social media on Thursday.
Fittingly on his 41st birthday, the Hoosier’s 20th season in North America’s premier open-wheel championship was confirmed to pilot the No. 33 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet. He is set to compete in five races, including the 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500. The other events include the upcoming XPEL 375 at Texas Motor Speedway on March 20, the doubleheader at Iowa Speedway July 23-24 and World Wide Technology Raceway on Aug. 20.
Carpenter, who has captured all three of his career victories on ovals, is also a three-time pole-sitter of the Indy 500 (2013, ’14 and ’18).
[NEWS] @EdCarpenter20’s 20th season will see him race the No. 33 in all oval events.
A birthday of 3/3.
3 #IndyCar Wins.
3 #Indy500 Poles.
The goal to be first in the field of 33 after 500 miles.
