Michael Annett, who has missed eight races during the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season due to a stress fracture in his femur, will officially retire from full-time NASCAR competition following the 2021 season.

Annett made the announcement in the form of a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m just so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had,” Annett said in the release. “Being able to drive racecars for a living is honestly a dream come true for me. It’s been a privilege to work with some great teams and alongside some of the most talented folks in the garage. None of this would have been possible without the support of my partners, and I am happy to call them life-long friends. It’s those relationships and friendships that are the most rewarding.”

Annett, 35, has one-career NASCAR Xfinity Series victory in 316 starts. His lone win came in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway in 2019.

In eight full-time NXS seasons, Annett’s career-best finish in the point standings was a fifth-place ranking in 2012.

Annett has finished ninth in the championship standings in three of the last four seasons driving for JR Motorsports.

In addition to his 316 NXS starts, Annett has also made 106 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and nine starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Annett’s best NASCAR Cup Series finish was a 13th-place effort in the 2015 Daytona 500 and he scored a career-best second-place finish in the Truck Series at Kentucky in 2008.

Annett was also a two-time winner in the ARCA Menards Series.
