Sheldon Creed, the 2020 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion, will join Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series full-time in 2022. The organization officially announced the move on Tuesday Morning.

The 24-year-old currently races full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for GMS Racing. Creed has collected eight victories with the organization. In fact, Creed has won the series’ most recent races at Darlington and Gateway.

Both of those wins have come in the opening two races of the 2021 Playoffs. As a result, Creed has moved into the top spot of the Truck Series Point Standings. And he has emerged as a favorite to repeat as Truck Series champion.

Creed’s hunt for a second title would just further extend an already impressive resume. Creed’s list of accolades also includes the 2018 ARCA Menards Series title.

Driving For Childress is an “Honor”

“To drive for a legendary team like Richard Childress Racing and have the support of Richard Childress means everything to me,” said Creed. “So many current NASCAR Cup Series stars got their start in RCR’s NASCAR Xfinity Series program, so it is an honor to be able to add my name to that prestigious list. I am grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to 2022.”

The Alpine, California-native grew up racing in off-road racing. Creed won championships in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and Stadium Super Trucks. Then, Creed made the transition into NASCAR’s top-three series, while coming through the ARCA Menards Series.

“Sheldon has proved himself as a talented driver during his short NASCAR Career and we know that he will help contribute to RCR’s competitive NASCAR Xfinity Series program with his drive to succeed,” said Richard Childress, Chairman and CEO of RCR. “I am looking forward to watching his career continue to develop as a RCR driver and feel confident that he will represent RCR well both on and off the track.”

Additional details regarding Richard Childress Racing’s 2022 lineup will be forthcoming.
