Natalie Decker Scores Runner-Up Finish in SGT Class of Trans Am Race at Watkins Glen

It was a good weekend for part-time NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor Natalie Decker, because she recorded a second place finish in the SGT class of the Trans Am Championship Series race at Watkins Glen International

The 24-year old Decker came home second in the SGT class. And overall, Decker finish 19th in the 30-lap trip around the iconic road course in New York. Decker was driving the No. 29 Tony Ave Racing Audi R8.

The Wisconsin-native completed all 30 laps and finished just 0.720-second behind the winner in her class. Decker finished just 1 minute and 35.059 seconds behind the overall winner of the race.

Justin Oakes of Houston, Texas took the top spot in the SGT class and finished 18th overall in the event.

Meanwhile, Chris Dyson bested legendary road course driver Boris Said for the overall win in the race.

Ernie Francis Jr., of SRX Racing fame, ran into problems and finished 23rd, two laps off the pace. GMS Racing’s NASCAR Truck Series driver Jack Wood ended the race in 25th.

34 drivers competed in Sunday’s Trans Am event at Watkins Glen.

Decker has made four NASCAR Xfinity Series starts in 2021 and has a best finish of 24th. That best finish came at Talladega Superspeedway in the spring.

Last season, Decker made history by finishing fifth in the season-opening NASCAR Truck Series event at Daytona. This finish marked the best-ever finish for a female driver in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series history.
