Corey Heim Holds Off Austin Hill to Capture Fifth ARCA Menards Series Victory of 2021 at Watkins Glen

In one of the most heavily-stacked fields in recent memory for the ARCA Menards Series, 18-year-old Corey Heim held off a hard charge from NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Austin Hill to capture his fifth victory of the season at Watkins Glen International and eat into some of the seven-point gap that championship rival Ty Gibbs had created after late-race contreversy at Winchester Speedway.

Heim was able to make the right adjustments during the race’s halfway break, while also capitalizing on the misfortune of NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of The Year Contender, Chase Briscoe, whose Chad Bryant Racing entry fell victim to a mechanical issue in the closing laps of the event.

Austin Hill was able to bring his Hattori Racing Enterprises entry home in the runner-up position, with Ty Gibbs, Carson Hocevar, and Brandon Jones rounded out the top-five finishers. Riley Herbst, Taylor Gray, Nick Sanchez, Austin Wayne Self and Jack Wood rounded out the top-10.

Both Kris Wright and Sam Mayer appeared to have vehicles fast enough to challenge for a top-five finish in Friday Night’s event, but were both involved in incidents throughout the event, which relegated them to finishes outside the top-10 in 13th and 14th, respectively.

After only getting a single lap in practice, Brad Perez – making his highly-anticipated ARCA Menards Series debut for Josh Williams Motorsports — had worked his way inside the top-15, before a mechanical issue forced the fan favorite to the garage for an extended period of time, ultimately recording a 24th-place finish.

Dale Quarterly – piloting the No. 3 Chevrolet SS — also made an anticipated return to the ARCA Menards Series at Watkins Glen, but would finish outside the top-25 after contact from Venturini Motorsports’ Drew Dollar, send the No. 3 Van Dyk Recycling Solutions entry into the outside wall in turn seven.

The ARCA Menards Series will now take a two-week break, before returning to action at Michigan International Speedway on August 20, where Ty Gibbs will look to defend his two-point advantage over Corey Heim as the series enters it’s final six-race stretch, which will include two speedways, two dirt tracks and three historic short tracks scattered throughout the United States.
