Kyle Busch Takes Truck Series Win at Kansas Despite Issue With Truck in Closing Laps

What a season 2021 has been for Kyle Busch Motorsports. They have now won five straight races in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series after Kyle Busch zoomed past Ross Chastain and Austin Hill heading to the final lap of Saturday’s Wise Power 200 at Kansas Speedway.

“No restarts actually went our way tonight,” Busch said. “I was shocked. We definitely missed something just being able to come up through the gears and get going. It just would not go. You know, just slow. And those guys would just swarm us.”

Despite the potential issue, and the odd sluggish restarts, it was a great night for Busch and his team.

“All in all though, great job by KBM , everybody at Toyota, TRD,” said Busch. “This Cessna Beachcraft Tundra was awesome tonight.”

Busch, who won Stages 1 and 2, was attempting to diagnose an issue on his No. 51 just before the final restart. He felt it could have been a power steering issue, a dragging brake or numerous other issues. It seemed that his chances at victory were toast. Until Busch stepped up, chased down the leaders and won for the 61st time in NCWTS competition.

Chastain held on for second in Niece Motorsports’ No. 44 truck, while Hill also hung on for third in the No. 16 Hattori truck.

Christian Eckes came home fourth and John Hunter Nemechek made a late gamble to take on scuff tires, and rallied to a fifth-place finish.

Todd Gilliland, Zane Smith, Raphael Lessard, Johnny Sauter and Ben Rhodes rounded out the top-10 finishers in Saturday night’s race.
