Race Preview

Where to begin on this one? The NASCAR Cup Series will compete in their first dirt race since 1970 on Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway. While no driver in the field has had experience in a Cup Series car on dirt, several of the drivers that will make up the field on Sunday have quite a bit of dirt experience.

Kyle Larson, who has been in the running for just about every race win in 2021, has to be the favorite. Larson had a dirt season for the ages last year, winning more than 40 events, which paved the way to getting him back into a premier ride in the NASCAR Cup Series for 2021.

Larson will have to contend with Christopher Bell, his long time rival in the battle for the Chili Bowl Nationals. Both drivers have a win in their back pockets heading into this race, and have very little to lose. Expect them both to be very aggressive.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Dillon are two other drivers expected to have a decent shot at competing for a win.

Stenhouse is a frequent competitor on the sprint car dirt scene, and Dillon has a previous win in the Truck Series on the dirt at Eldora, and Dillon also took a victory in this past week’s Bristol Dirt Nationals.

There are also dirt ringers like Chris Windom (driving Rick Ware Racing’s No. 15 entry), Mike Marlar (driving MBM’s No. 66) and Shane Golobic (driving Live Fast Motorsports’ No. 78) that could surprise with decent finishes this weekend.

That being said, expect the absolute unexpected as we have NO idea what this race will bring this weekend.
