Race Preview

A week after his eighth-career NASCAR Xfinity Series runner-up finish, Daniel Hemric will start from the pole in Saturday’s Call 811 Before You Dig 200 at Phoenix Raceway. Hemric suffered another heartbreaking defeat last weekend, as AJ Allmendinger came to life at the end of the event in Las Vegas, but Hemric is riding the high of three-straight top-three finishes.

He’s knocking on the door of a first-career win, and this weekend could be the weekend we see him finally kick the door down.

Starting alongside Hemric is his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate and last year’s winner of this race — Brandon Jones.

The 24-year old crashed out of the season-opening event at the Daytona International Speedway, but since then, he has been lights out. With finishes of fourth, second and third at the Daytona Road Course, Homestead and Las Vegas, it feels like Jones is starting to really feel in the zone.

A season ago, he topped Kyle Busch of all people to score the win in the desert. Can Jones pull off another win this time around?

If these two don’t go to victory lane, there is a solid chance another driver from the top-10 starting spots does.

The third place to 10th place starters, Austin Cindric, AJ Allmendinger, Justin Haley, Jeb Burton, Harrison Burton, Michael Annett, Josh Berry and Noah Gragson have combined for a total of 19 NASCAR Xfinity Series wins since the start of the 2020 season.

And how about Ty Gibbs? The grandson of Joe Gibbs will be making his second-career start this weekend. If you don’t recall, the 18-year old scored a win in his series debut at the Daytona Road Course, scoring a Stage Win along the way, as well.

If Gibbs is to win at Phoenix, he’ll have to do so from the 27th starting position.
