Former Xfinity Series Driver Eric McClure Looking at a NASCAR Return in 2021?

Could long-time NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Eric McClure be making his return to NASCAR competition next season?

The Chilhowie, Virginia-native hinted at a possible NASCAR National Series return in a reply to a Tweet on Sunday Night.

McClure – a NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor for 14 seasons — has not participated in a NASCAR National Series event since 2016, when he drove the No. 0 Chevrolet Camaro for JD Motorsports in the Powershares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

In the past, health issues have plagued McClure’s career, with the former driver being forced to sit on the sidelines for five NASCAR Xfinity Series events in 2012 after a horrible accident at Talladega Superspeedway left him with a concussion and internal bruising. Two years later, in August 2014, McClure was forced to miss an additional four races because of what was determined to be acute renal failure, before missing an additional two events later in the season because of various medical issues.

Life off-the-track hasn’t exactly gone smoothly for McClure, who was arrested for charges of domestic violence in February 2018, before being later sentenced to probation after pleading “no contest”, according to a October 22 report from The Associated Press.

TobyChristie.com has reached out to Eric McClure in hopes to get further details on a possible 2021 return, but has not gotten a response at the time of publishing.
