James Hinchcliffe gives “hard yes” to a fan’s NASCAR scheme, proposal of road course races

With NASCAR visiting six road courses in the 2021 schedule, the possibilities of the famed “road-course ringers” flocking back to the series is reaching new potential.

This has lead to members of the NASCAR design community forming their own possibilities, putting drivers from across the racing spectrum into one of NASCAR’s entries.

The latest design combination comes from Jared Bokanoski, an 18-year-old designer from Daytona Beach, Florida.

Bokanoski proposed a No. 77 Genesys Telecommunications Camaro involving Spire Motorsports for the Brickyard weekend in 2021 with IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe.

The idea immediately captured the attention of the team, reacting to the slick design via Twitter.

Another fan, Matt Hultman, proposed adding Somona Raceway, as well as the Charlotte Roval to a part-time schedule for Hinchcliffe.

The IndyCar driver gave his blessing, with a “Hard yes.”

This would not be Spire’s first time in attracting a driver from another racing avenue to NASCAR.

James Davison ran a part-time schedule for Spire and Rick Ware Racing this past season. The Australian driver has spent time in a multitude of series including the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Pirelli World Challenge, as well as IndyCar.

Spire Motorsports, interestingly, could pull this off for 2021.

The motorsports team of Spire is a part of the larger Spire Sports and Entertainment. Aside from owning multiple hockey teams, and Knoxville Raceway, Spire also serves as a talent presentation agency.

Their roster of drivers include multiple NASCAR drivers such as Ross Chastain, Justin Haley, as well as multiple IndyCar drivers, with Hinchcliffe serving as a client.

Hinchcliffe was relieved of his driving duties for Arrow McLaren SP on the IndyCar side last year, and returned to Andretti Autosport this past season for a part-time schedule.

Spire Motorsports has yet to confirm their driver lineup for the 2021 season, with Corey LaJoie expected to move over to the team in a second full-time entry.
