Chase Elliott may have secured his first-career NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2020 in a walk-off win in the Season Finale 500 at Phoenix Raceway, but that doesn’t mean he’s packing it in for the entire offseason. Elliott, who is a two-time winner of the prestigious Snowball Derby super late model race, will compete in the event for the first time since 2017.

Elliott says that he wants to continue to compete in the Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, because it’s a race that helped shape the early portion of his career.

“I obviously still have a lot of interest and an emotional, raw connection with short track racing,” Elliott said in an interview with Speed51.com. “The Snowball is an event that played a big part in my career and having the opportunities I’ve had. It was an event I was tired of watching every December (on Speed51), so I’m ready to give it another go.”

Elliott will drive an entry prepared by James Finch, the former long-time NASCAR team owner.

Rich Bickle holds the all-time record for most wins in the Snowball Derby with five. If Elliott, who holds the record for being the youngest winner of the event (2011), wins this edition of the race, he’ll be just two wins behind Bickle’s record.

Tickets are still available for the 53rd annual Snowball Derby (December 2-6) and coverage will be live on Speed51.com.
