Rocky Ryan, who has been a spotter in NASCAR for 26 years, will not return as a spotter for the 2021 NASCAR season. Ryan revealed the news in a Monday morning Tweet, where he revealed that he will be moving on to some new and exciting opportunities in Nashville, TN.

Over the years, Ryan has spotted for numerous race teams. Most recently, he served as the spotter for Michael McDowell and Front Row Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series this past season as well as JD Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Notable teams that Ryan has spotted for over the years include: Joe Gibbs Racing, Richard Childress Racing, Roush Fenway Racing and Bill Davis Racing.

Among his many achievements in the industry, Ryan was the 2002 Daytona 500 champion spotter with Ward Burton. Additionally, he helped Kyle Busch win the 2009 NASCAR Busch Series driver championship, and he was the spotter on the 2007 and 2012 NASCAR Busch Series Owner Championship teams.

Ryan also served as the spotter for Johnny Benson’s 2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship, as well.

With Ryan atop the spotter’s perch in 2020, Michael McDowell enjoyed his best season to date in his NASCAR Cup Series career. McDowell set career highs in top-10 finishes (four), Points Position (23rd), average finish (20.9) and lead lap finishes (23).

  1. Thanks Toby, really cool of you noticing! I’m going to miss everyone, but these two opportunities are incredible, and I’m honored to be chosen. I wish the best to everyone that I have come in contact with these last 26 years. The support has been overwhelming.
