Las Vegas Motor Speedway has announced that the upcoming three day race weekend at the track will be held with no fans in attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

LVMS President Chris Powell released a statement with the news.

“To say we’re disappointed that we will conduct the South Point 400 playoff weekend without fans would be a gross understatement,” Powell said. “Our staff has been working – many of them remotely – since the February Pennzoil 400 to prepare the speedway for our playoff triple-header.”

Currently in Nevada, fans are not permitted to attend large events such as sports or concerts, and group gathering are limited to a maximum of 50 individuals.

The speedway says that fans who purchased tickets to the race weekend already will be contacted soon about refunds or receiving credit towards a future race.

“We’re hopeful that we will be able to welcome all of our fans back for our two race weekends in 2021,” Powell said. “Those dates will be announced soon, and we look forward to getting things back to normal.”

After 30,000 fans packed into the Bristol Motor Speedway, a few tracks remain in announcing their plans for fans during the playoffs – including Charlotte Roval and Martinsville.

Those plans are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
