In unexpected sponsorship news, Cash App, the popular mobile app where users can easily send money back and forth with each other, has signed on to be the primary sponsor of 26-year old NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace and the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports team for five races over a multi-year deal.

The company will also serve as an associate sponsor for the No. 43 team for the remainder of the 2020 season. The team made the announcement in the form of a press release and video posted to social media on Tuesday.

For Cash App, the chance to work with a once-in-a-generation talent like Wallace was super appealing.

“Bubba Wallace is a once-in-a-generation talent and we are proud to partner with Richard Petty Motorsports to usher in this new era of racing,” Garrett McManus, artistic development lead for Cash App, said in a team release. “We stand with Bubba and we are thrilled to team-up on the next part of his journey.”

Wallace, who hails from Alabama, is pumped to represent Cash App with this new deal.

“This announcement is really exciting news for our team. It is always nice to see new brands come to the sport and make a commitment like Cash App has with this news,” Wallace said. “We are excited to have Cash App onboard the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and I look forward to introducing NASCAR fans to the easiest way to send, spend, save, and invest their money.”

Wallace’s first run with Cash App as the primary sponsor will begin in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

In addition to the Texas race, Cash App will serve as Wallace’s primary sponsor at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway.

Wallace first hinted of the new sponsorship on a Tuesday edition of Sirius Speedway on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, describing the company that had signed on to be one, he never expected to jump into the sport.

The first report of the Cash App deal came from Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern.

Wallace is a six-time winner in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, and has been a full-time NASCAR Cup Series competitor since 2018. Wallace’s career-best finish was a second-place effort in the 2018 Daytona 500, but over his first two seasons, Wallace was plagued with inconsistency.

However, in 2020, he and his team have become much more stable.

Wallace has three top-10 finishes in the first 17 races of the season, and he sits inside the top-20 of the NCS championship standings in 19th. The best finish Wallace has ever had in the year-end championship standings is 28th, so this has been a much better season for he and Richard Petty Motorsports.
