If your favorite driver couldn’t win Thursday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway, you had to be pulling for Chase Briscoe.

Two days ago, the driver of the No. 98 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang experienced the worst day of his life, as he and his wife Marissa learned that they had miscarried their first child. The emotions ran high for Briscoe as he was locked in Darlington alone awaiting a rain-delayed event.

Fast forward to Thursday, Briscoe held off Kyle Busch in a fender-bending finish to score his second win of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and fourth-career win overall.

Upon climbing from the car, Briscoe who was overcome with emotion, kneeled. When he removed his helmet, Briscoe had tears flowing from his eyes.

“Yeah, this is for my wife,” Briscoe sobbed, struggling to form words. “This is the hardest week I’ve ever had to deal with. God is so good.”

Busch finished second, while Justin Allgaier ended up third, Austin Cindric was fourth and Noah Gragson scored a fifth-place finish.

Daniel Hemric, Ryan Sieg, Ross Chastain, Harrison Burton and Justin Haley rounded out the top-10 finishers in the race.

Gragson won Stage 1, while Busch took the Stage 2 win. However, in the Stage break after Stage 2, Busch was caught speeding on pit road and was sent to the back of the pack.

It took until the final restart for Busch to have a shot at regaining the lead.
