Ross Chastain, Garrett Smithley Highlight Packed Niece Motorsports Lineup at Charlotte

Niece Motorsports, for the first time in the team’s short history, will be bringing four trucks to the racetrack on Tuesday, when the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series returns to action after a nine-week hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ty Majeski, the team’s full-time driver, will continue to pilot his familiar No. 45 Truck at Charlotte. Majeski will be joined by Natalie Decker in the No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado, who in two prior starts with Niece Motorsports, has accumulated one top-five finish at Daytona. Ross Chastain, a staple in the Niece Motorsports lineup since 2017, will be piloting the team’s fourth entry, driving the No. 42 Circle Track Warehouse Chevrolet. Finally, making his debut for Niece Motorsports will be Garrett Smithley, driving the No. 40 Trophy Tractor Chevrolet Silverado for the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Charlotte on Tuesday.

Garrett Smithley (No. 40 Trophy Tractor Chevrolet Silverado)

Garrett Smithley will be a busy man next week at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as Smithley plans to run all four races scheduled for NASCAR’s National Series at Charlotte. Smithley will pilot the Rick Ware Racing No. 53 in Sunday & Wednesday’s NASCAR Cup Series Races, while driving the No. 07 for SS Greenlight Racing on Monday and the No. 40 for Niece Motorsports on Tuesday.

In eight previous NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series starts, Smithley has recorded a best finish of 14th, driving for Mike Mittler at Michigan in 2015. Trophy Tractor, a longtime supporter of Garrett Smithley, will be the primary sponsor on the Niece Motorsports Silverado, as Smithley looks to improve upon his career best Truck series finish at Charlotte.

Smithley has one previous start in the NASCAR Truck Series at Charlotte, back in 2016, when Smithley drove the No. 07 for SS Greenlight Racing, finishing 29th.

Ross Chastain (No. 42 Circle Track Warehouse Chevrolet Silverado)

Ross Chastain has been a staple of the Niece Motorsports organization since 2018, driving for the race team on a part-time basis in 2018, before making the jump to run full-time with the team last season in hopes of chasing a championship.

Chastain was a substantial part of bringing the Niece Motorsports team to the caliber of race team they are now, scoring the team their first ever win last season at Kansas, following it up with two more wins at Gateway and Pocono, before ultimately finishing second in final standings to Matt Crafton.

Chastain has participated in the first two events of the season, driving the team’s third entry (No. 40) at Daytona and Las Vegas, scoring a top-ten finish at Daytona in February. Now, Chastain will find himself in a new situation, as he will move to the team’s newly created fourth entry, driving the No. 42 Circle Track Warehouse Chevrolet Silverado at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday.

In four previous NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chastain has scored two top-ten finishes, with a best finish of ninth in 2013.

Natalie Decker (No. 44 N29 Capital Technologies LLC Chevrolet Silverado)

Natalie Decker comes to Charlotte Motor Speedway looking to improve on her recent positive performances and rewrite her history at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Last season, driving for DGR-Crosley Racing, Decker was involved in two separate incidents early in the race, causing her day to end 32 laps into the event.

Decker has competed in both NASCAR Truck Series events this season for Niece Motorsports, scoring a career-best fifth place finish at Daytona International Speedway, the best finish by a female in the history of the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series. Decker then went on to finish in the 21st position at Las Vegas.

Decker has only one previous start at Charlotte in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, coming home 31st. This week will be crucial for Decker, as both Ross Chastain and Garrett Smithley have a wealth of experience at Charlotte Motor Speedway, experience that could be useful for Decker, in hopes of recording a solid top-fifteen finish this weekend at Charlotte.

Ty Majeski (No. 45 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado)

Ty Majeski enters this race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as the most inexperienced driver on the four-truck Niece Motorsports team. Despite being victorious in a ARCA Menard’s Series race at Charlotte in 2019, Majeski has only recorded three previous NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series starts in his career, only one of which comes on a mile and a half race track.

Through two races this season, Majeski sits 21st in standings after a rocky start to the season. In the season opener at Daytona, Majeski finished 32nd after an accident sent Majeski sliding on his roof through Turn 1. Majeski followed that up with a 13th place result at Las Vegas, despite running in the top-ten at times during the event. More than anything, Majeski heads to Charlotte looking for a solid result, in hopes of boosting the confidence of himself and his race team.
