The situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic around the world and the United States continues to be a fluid situation. As far as NASCAR goes, the virus has already postponed the season through early May, with Martinsville on May 9th being the next scheduled race.

However, on Monday it appears that it’ll be quite difficult, if not impossible, to run that race on May 9th.

Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam has issued a stay at home order for the entire state, which will run through June 10th. This will ban any gatherings of 10 or more people between Monday, March 30th until then.

There has been no official word from NASCAR just yet about further postponement, but the sanctioning body has released the following statement:

“NASCAR is aware of the stay-at-home order issued for Virginia. We will continue discussions with public health officials and medical experts as we assess rescheduling options.”
