Aric Almirola paced the opening practice session for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Almirola turned a lap of 178.654 mph (30.226 seconds).
The driver of the No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang narrowly edged out his teammate’s No. 14. Clint Bowyer was just 0.046 sec. behind Almirola’s quick-lap.
Ty Dillon was the surprise of the session as he knocked down the third-fastest lap and was less than a tenth-of-a-second off Almirola’s pace.
Joey Logano and Alex Bowman rounded out the five fastest in the session.
