Brett Moffitt Caps Off Dominating Performance to Score Second-Consecutive Trucks Win

The talk heading into the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Playoffs was that Ross Chastain was the overwhelming favorite to take the Series championship. Two races into the 2019 Playoffs, GMS Racing’s Brett Moffitt has showed why he was the champion a season ago as he has now scored back-to-back wins at Bristol a week ago and now Candian Tire Motorsport Park.

Moffitt’s latest win came after a dominating day, where Moffitt led all 20 laps of Stage 1. In all, Moffitt led 45 of the 64 laps in Sunday’s Truck Series race.

When asked about what has turned around at GMS Racing the last couple of weeks, Moffit said, “It’s everything. Obviously saving fuel there, but we had a really good Chevrolet Silverado.”

Moffitt now has four wins on the 2019 season.

Alex Tagliani, who was driving Kyle Busch Motorsports’ No. 51 truck, came home in the runner-up spot. Ben Rhodes, Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill rounded out the top-five finishers on the day.

Johnny Sauter finished sixth, while Stewart Friesen came back from severe adversity to finish the day in seventh. Ross Chastain won Stage 2 and went on to finish eighth, while Tyler Ankrum and Raphael Lessard were ninth and 10th.

Other notable performances on the day included DJ Kennington coming home in 15th while subbing for the suspended Tyler Dippel, and how about Jordan Anderson finishing 16th despite driving a truck that had been severely crashed on Saturday?

Anderson and his team worked all day on Saturday and got their truck repaired enough to qualify Sunday morning. The No. 3 truck stayed out of trouble all day long on Sunday and got a very respectable finish.
