Did You Know NASCAR Champions Write a Journal for Following Champ Each Season?

Here is a fun nugget that was dropped on NASCAR.com on Wednesday: Each year the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion has written a journal for the next season’s champion to read.

The cool tradition apparently started in 2011, when Jimmie Johnson wrote the first edition at the suggestion of Mike Helton. In the seven seasons since, the journal has grown and wisdom has been passed between the sport’s greatest drivers.

The latest hand off of the journal took place at the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation’s 10th-Annual Cat Walk for a Cure event.

Truex, who invited his rival Joey Logano to the event, also gave Logano the journal. The tradition continues.

Drivers who have written entries in the journal include: Johnson, Tony Stewart, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Truex.

Now, Logano will write his chapter in the journal to hand off to this year’s champion. How cool is that?
