Chase Elliott Believes Drivers and Owners Shouldn’t Have Input in Running NASCAR

This week, the big chat around NASCAR has been the growing frustration between veteran drivers who are wanting their voices to be heard by NASCAR when it comes to the rules package that the sanctioning body is using from week-to-week. Leavine Family Racing team owner Bob Leavine also took to Twitter to criticize the current rules package.

The sport’s most popular driver Chase Elliott was the latest who feels his opinion isn’t listened to by NASCAR.

“I think there is certainly a right way to maybe bring it up,” Elliott said during his Friday media availability. “Frankly, I’ve tried to voice my opinion at different times or in those meetings that we’re supposed to voice our opinions in. And at the end of the day, I’ve come to the realization, and maybe this will change as time goes, but I just don’t think that my opinion matters to the people who make the rules.

However, even though his voice hasn’t been heard in the past, Elliott is different than Harvick and Busch. He isn’t frustrated, he feels that the drivers and team owners should have no impact on how NASCAR comes up with rules packages.

“Really and truly, I’m not sure that it should, right? Why do the owners and the drivers and the teams even have a voice in some of that stuff? When it comes down to it, just make the rules and be done with it. We’re racing. Either you like it or your don’t.”
