2019 All-Star Race Will Feature New Rules Package Components, Overtime in All Stages

NASCAR’s Steve O’Donnell and Speedway Motorsports Inc.’s Marcus Smith announced changes to the 2019 NASCAR All-Star Race on FS1’s NASCAR Race Hub.

Driver’s who will be eligible to race in this event will include 2018 and 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race winners, All-Star Winners and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champions, The three winners of the Monster Energy Open Stages and a driver who wins the fan vote.

The race will consist of four stages. Stage 1 will be 30 laps, Stage 2 will be 20 laps, Stage 3 will be 20 laps and the final Stage will be 15 laps.

For the final Stage only green flag laps will count, and for all four stages overtime rules will be in effect. There will be unlimited attempts at overtime in the final stage if race restarts with two or less laps remaining.

As far as the technical aspect of the cars, NASCAR will use this race as a test session for possible parts and pieces for their upcoming Gen-7 race cars. The 2019 All-Star race will feature a single-piece carbon fiber splitter/pan as well as a radiator duct in the hood.

This will theoretically cool the engine temperatures while also affecting the aerodynamics of the cars as well.

Qualifying for the All-Star race will remain the same for 2019, where it will include a pit stop and no speed limit on pit road.
