No Surprise: William Byron Fails Post-Qualifying Inspection in Damaged Car

William Byron will relinquish his sixth place starting spot for the STP 500 after his car failed post-qualifying technical inspection Sunday Morning.

Byron will now roll off from the 34th spot.

It shouldn’t be surprising that Byron failed inspection as his car slammed into the wall in opening practice on Saturday. The team made repairs, but apparently the repairs weren’t fully to NASCAR specifications.

With the packed schedule for the weekend there wasn’t much time to get things done correctly.

Joining Byron at the rear of the field on Sunday will be DJ Kennington in the Spire Motorsports No. 77 car and Jeb Burton in Rick Ware Racing’s No. 51 car. Both of these cars also failed post-qualifying inspection.
